To reach Kolukkumala, visitors can opt for a jeep ride through bumpy, elevated terrain. Interestingly, the jeep ride also takes roughly the same amount of time due to the slow movement required on the narrow ghat road, originally built for tea estate tractors.
Located approximately 25 kilometers from Munnar, the journey to Kolukkumala involves 18 kilometers on the national highway followed by a regular road. Visitors can drive their own vehicles up to a certain point, after which a jeep must be hired. The jeep ride costs around ₹3,500 and can accommodate 6 to 8 people. The total travel time to the top is about 1.5 hours. From the drop-off point, there’s a 500-meter walk to the viewpoint.
Important Note: The path to the viewpoint has steep drops on both sides with no fencing, so it’s not recommended for children. If you do bring kids, ensure they are closely supervised at all times.
