Fort Kochi’s story dates back to the late 15th century when the Portuguese arrived after the great flood of 1341 reshaped the coastline. It later came under Dutch and then British rule, each leaving behind architectural and cultural imprints. This layered past is visible in its old churches, colonial bungalows, Jewish heritage sites, and historic streets. It was also an important spice trading center connecting India with Europe and the Middle East.
